Augusta University anchors the academic and medical life of Augusta, Georgia, on the Savannah River. The Medical College of Georgia, the state's flagship medical school, draws students and researchers to its Health Sciences campus on 15th Street. Undergraduates in nursing, health sciences, and liberal arts programs are based at the Summerville campus three miles away in a leafy historic neighborhood. Freshman Live-On Requirement
Augusta University does not mandate that freshmen live on campus, though on-campus housing is available in the residential halls near the Summerville campus. Students are free to choose off-campus housing from the start of their enrollment, and many do so given the limited number of residential beds relative to total enrollment.
Off-Campus Eligibility
All students at Augusta University are eligible to live off campus at any point during their academic career. This is especially common among health sciences students at the Medical College of Georgia, who often prefer apartments close to the clinical facilities on the Health Sciences campus along 15th Street.
Lease Timing
Most landlords in the Augusta market work on standard 12-month lease cycles starting in August. Students should begin searching in February or March to have the best selection, particularly in the Summerville and Harrisburg neighborhoods that fill up quickly each spring.
