Very nice building, mostly pleasant staff, not a 5 star experience (as they say in their advertising materials). I was laid off recently and asked for a policy exception to help me move out and save some money. The policy: 60 days’ notice of intent to vacate is required under my lease. I asked if Hanover Evans Station would be willing to reduce the required notice period to 30 days. That way, I wouldn’t owe on two different apartments at the same time, and I could ease my financial burden while seeking a new job. To be clear, I was on board with paying the early termination fee and providing some notice; I just needed to reduce the notice period in order to make it all work. I was told flatly, no. And, in a way, I get it. The policy is the policy. However, as a compliance lawyer who (until recently) wrote and administered policies and procedures for a living, I know that all policies may be excepted. It’s a regular part of doing business. It’s normal and happens all the time. That they would not consider my situation and be willing to work with me on the notice period tells me all I need to know. They don’t care about me or my “5 star experience.” That’s just advertising. I hope you don’t need this kind of care and understanding from a landlord, but if you do, don’t expect humanity from the folks at Hanover. They don’t care.

The apartment tour was a very pleasant experience. The unit was clean, well-lit, and thoughtfully laid out. Thank you Zeena, She was friendly, informative, professional and answered all of my questions. Overall, it left a great first impression.
