We measured every route on the OpenStreetMap pedestrian network, from each listing's map pin to each of the five stations, in September 2026.
Why 10 minutes? A PRT car shows up within about five minutes of your button press. The full Walnut-to-Health Sciences ride takes about 11.5 minutes, according to WVU's PRT history page. Stack a 10-minute walk on top and you're already looking at a 25-minute trip to the Medical Center. Any farther and a car starts to win.

Walnut Station: Downtown WVU Apartments Near the PRT
Walnut is the station for downtown Morgantown, and 125 Pleasant St is practically on top of it. It's a three-bedroom unit listed at $625, two minutes from the fare gates. Nothing else on FMP comes close to that.
The rest of the Walnut group sits up the hill around Cobun Avenue, Forest Avenue and Baird Street. 232 Cobun Avenue, a five-bedroom listed at $575, is about 7 minutes out. 413 Forest Ave (a six-bedroom house from $450), Central Place and 305 Cobun Ave take 8 to 10. The catch: Walnut sits low, near the Monongahela, so the walk to the station is easy and the walk home is a climb.
Honestly? If most of your classes are on the Downtown campus, you'll walk to class and use the PRT for the occasional trip to Evansdale. That's fine. Just don't pay extra for "PRT access" you'll use twice a week.
Beechurst Station: The Best Cluster of Apartments on Beechurst Avenue
Beechurst station, across the street from Reynolds Hall and close to Armstrong and Brooks Halls, has the most FMP listings in range: seven. If you're searching for apartments near Beechurst Avenue, this is the stretch that matters.
Beech Front Apartments, at 220-236 Beechurst Ave, is the closest at about six minutes. It lists from $675. Mountaineer Place Apartments on Stewart Street is seven minutes away and lists from $784. Its rent drops as bedroom count rises ($974 for a 2x2, $883 for a 3x3, $784 for a 4x4), which only makes sense if those prices are per bed.
Two blocks farther into Sunnyside you'll find The Delta on 3rd Street (from $635) and State on Campus at 331 Beechurst Ave (from $959). Both are 8 to 9 minutes on foot. 659 Spruce St, 750 College Ave and Courtyard West on Willey Street fill out the list from the downtown side.
The Sunnyside trap: the PRT runs by, but it doesn't stop
North of Beechurst station, the guideway follows the riverfront toward Engineering with no stop in between. So a listing can feel close to the PRT and still fail the test. The 512 at 512 Beechurst Ave is 12 minutes back to Beechurst station. Metro Towers, at 2577 University Ave, is 18 minutes from Beechurst and 24 from Towers.
Evansdale and Health Sciences: Only One FMP Listing Passes
Pierpont Place at 445 Oakland St is the only Evansdale-side listing inside 10 minutes. It's about 9 minutes to the Health Sciences station and 11 to Towers. Rents there list from $499. Nursing, pharmacy and med students, this one's for you.
Ashley Oaks, on McCullough Avenue off Don Nehlen Drive, misses by a few minutes (roughly 13 to Health Sciences). Past that, the gap gets wide fast.
Shuttle Complexes: How Car-Free Works When You Live Past the PRT
Northside Hills, The Lofts Morgantown, Mountain Valley Apartments and Domain at Town Centre are all 30 to 65 minutes from a station on foot. Nobody is walking that in February. What they do have is a private shuttle.
According to WVU's buses and shuttles page, those shuttles stop at spots like Mountaineer Station and Evansdale Crossing. Those are right next to the Health Sciences and Engineering PRT stations. So the real commute is shuttle, then PRT.
Check the hours before you sign, though. WVU lists the Northside Hills shuttle as running 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. every 40 minutes. Night lab at 7? That's on you.
Domain at Town Centre runs later (7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays), and Mountain Valley runs hourly until 9 p.m. on weekdays. Confirm the current schedule with the leasing office, because shuttle contracts change.
PRT Hours and Closures That Matter for Car-Free WVU Students
The PRT runs 6:30 a.m. to 10:15 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. It is closed on Sundays. Rides are free with a WVU ID ($0.50 otherwise), per WVU Transportation and Parking.
WVU's fall 2026 schedule also closes the system on October 9, November 3, November 22-29 for Fall Recess, and from December 12 into early January. Mountain Line buses are free with your WVU ID, too, and they're your Sunday plan.
The system spent summer 2026 in the shop. The shutdown that ended in August put nearly $8 million into modernized Engineering and Towers stations (new stairs, elevators and flooring) plus smoother guideway on the north side. Health Sciences station is next in line.
