Privacy policy
Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how findmyplace.co ("we", "our", "us") collects, uses, stores, and shares personal information when you use our platform or interact with communications we send on behalf of our property management partners.
Information we collect
We collect information you provide directly (account details, listing data, messages), information collected automatically (device, IP, usage analytics), and information from third parties (university directories, payment processors, and property management systems used by our partner properties).
Residents of partner properties
Some property management companies partner with Find My Place to collect resident feedback. If you live at (or have toured) a partner property, we may receive limited contact information about you — your email address and phone number — from your property's management system, solely to invite you to leave a review of your property.
We use this information only to send the review invitation and to attribute your review to the correct property.
We do not retain your contact information after the invitation is delivered; we keep only pseudonymous records needed to avoid sending you duplicate requests.
Every invitation includes a way to opt out. If you opt out, we record your preference on a suppression list and will not contact you again.
We never sell this information or use it for advertising.
To opt out or ask questions, email privacy@findmyplace.co.
How we use information
To operate the platform, match students with housing, process payments, deliver review invitations on behalf of partner properties, prevent fraud, comply with legal obligations, and improve the service.
Sharing
We share information with subprocessors (service providers who help us operate the platform, such as hosting, database, and message-delivery providers), with landlords when you contact a listing, with payment providers (Stripe), and when required by law.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
Security
We protect personal information with industry-standard safeguards, including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest (AES-256), role-based access controls, and two-factor authentication for administrative access. Our platform runs on infrastructure providers that maintain SOC 2 Type 2 attestations.
Breach notification
If a data breach affects your personal information, we will notify affected users and applicable regulators without undue delay, consistent with the requirements of applicable law.
Retention
We retain personal information for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period after deletion to comply with legal and accounting requirements. Contact information received from partner properties is handled as described in "Residents of partner properties" above and is not retained after delivery of the invitation.
Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction — including rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) where they apply — you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to be free from discrimination for exercising these rights. To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@findmyplace.co. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.
Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies for session management, preferences, and analytics. You can control cookies through your browser settings.
Children
The service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy here and update the "last updated" date below.
