Milwaukee School of Engineering Housing Requirements
Freshman Live-On Requirement
MSOE requires most first-year students to live in university-managed housing for their freshman year. This policy is designed to support academic transition and community building among new students entering the university's rigorous engineering and technical programs. Exceptions are available for students who live with a parent or guardian within a defined commuting distance of the downtown Milwaukee campus.
Off-Campus Eligibility
Students who have completed their freshman year in university housing are generally eligible to move off campus beginning with their sophomore year. Some upperclassmen remain in campus housing by choice given its convenience to labs and academic buildings, but the majority transition to private rentals in the neighborhoods surrounding the downtown campus. Students should review MSOE's current residency policy each year as requirements can be updated.
