While it is true that the area is not great, it has been improving, and my fiancé and I have lived here less than a year… The building itself is very safe and secure, and I’ve never felt unsafe inside my apartment. They even have a security guard here at night. The apartment itself is beautiful, with views overlooking the city. They also have building maintenance which is very convenient anytime you have a problem, and issues are able to be resolved quickly. The lobby and 2nd floor common area are wonderful, well decorated, and gives the building a “modern-hotel” feel. The 2nd floor even has a gym with weights, treadmills, and a peloton! In the apartments, you have an in-unit washer/dryer and dishwasher which is very important and convenient! The management is very kind, and they arrange fun events for the building tenants. For example, Painting with a Twist, a football event, a yoga event, and a Winter Holiday Party! During “Tenant Appreciation Week”, they also delivered everyone treat-bags to our apartments with candy, and a winter-themed essential oil. This attention to details and gestures of kindness are very sweet, and generous and makes you feel at home and cared for, which can be hard to accomplish in an apartment building! If you go to Duquesne University, the campus is within an easy walking distance. If you go to University of Pittsburgh, or work at UPMC, there is busses which come through this way, with one of the stops in front of the building.

I have lived at Flats on and off for going on three years. This apartment is in a very convenient location, close to downtown and Oakland (Pitt, CMU, and Carlow), as well as Uptown’s Duquesne. It is extremely accessible by bus. I will be honest in saying this apartment could use some upgrades, overall. However, for the price point there a lot of amenities offered coupled with the extremely convenient location which is hard to find now. To speak to some of the points raised regarding security, this is a very secure building and I have generally felt safe in addition to there being overnight security. To the point regarding the elevator, I think two elevators would be inefficient as it is only 7 floors, I rarely wait more than 3 minutes for the elevator. I have gone through different property managers but they have all been amazing and extremely accommodating to the college student and young adult population. I recommend this apartment if you are new to Pittsburgh, work in Oakland or downtown, or a college student especially if you are planning to commute by bus or be walking distance from several key landmarks. -(Mary)
