Straight Arrow Apartments

I lived here for one year while attending UW-Platteville. It was the worst living experience of my life. Highlights include my apartment being literally classified as a "human health hazard" and me being unable to open a door without hundreds of bugs falling on me. First, mold was a huge problem at this apartment, and I heard the same thing from people living in several different units, so it wasn't just us. We found mold in every bedroom, but it was especially bad in one bedroom which became virtually unsuitable for living in due to the constant moisture and water dripping from the ceiling. Our landlords' fix was to order us two dehumidifiers to keep constantly running, which did not fix the mold problem but did double our electricity bill (which they did *not* compensate us for). We had to call a county health inspector ourselves, and only then did our landlords sent people to "fix" the mold after the inspector declared our apartment a "human health hazard" with fines for our landlords if they didn’t address the mold problem. Two men came and scrubbed the mold, but it didn't go away completely. There was also a huge infestation of boxelder bugs that lived on the outside of the apartment building and would often cover the main doors. My text to one of the landlords complaining about the bugs was flat out ignored. Also, the original leases that we signed clearly stated that almost all of the utilities would be covered by the landlords. WE WERE FORCED TO PAY FOR ALL UTILITIES! After showing them our original lease, they waived it off as a "typo" and insisted it was fixed in their new version of the lease. Another fun feature of this apartment complex was the suspicious cars parked in the middle of the parking lot every other night. Several days a week you would come home to an apartment building that smelled like someone was trying to hotbox the entire neighborhood. Our downstairs neighbors played music so loud that our floor would literally shake, and random yelling and screaming could be heard at any time of night. Even if the landlords and neighbors were better, I still wouldn't recommend this location because of all the noise from the highway and the cars that speed through the apartment parking lot as a shortcut (despite the "no thru traffic" signs that are never enforced). TL;DR This place is cheap for a reason. Live somewhere better and with less mold.

Loved this place! Was extremely affordable and was easy to get to campus. The owners have been extremely helpful with anything that we have ever needed which hasn’t been much.
