I've waited about three months to write this so I would calm down first. I lived at The Emery for six years; my elderly mother lived there for four. We had zero complaints and enjoyed living there immensely. In April 2025, the property management was changed to Norris and Stevens (from Greystar). IMMEDIATELY, it was terrible. NS took over with very poor communication, lack of presence, garbage piling up. A property manager was hired, Sydney. I found her to be short, rude, incompetent, and just entirely difficult to communicate with - I believe she is still there to this date. Within a short amount of time, a rumor swirled that the maintenance person was involved in a sexual misconduct situation involving a resident; the story included that Sydney was also in a relationship with this person and posted a drunken video about the incident that some residents saw. I have emailed twice to her boss about this to verify its validity; no reply. It is important that people we trust be in a residential environment since they have full access to our homes and wellbeing. I could write a novel about the incidents that then occurred after this, too many to go into here, the halls were buzzing with discontent, and I gave notice. Requests from Sydney were ignored, on moving out, I had to go above her to get the back garage to be opened - from NS "we aren't staffed this weekend." I appreciate that Sydney allowed me a few extra days to move, as my moving became complicated and stressful. The accounting for my mother's rent was wrong - they charged her 15.45 for the last month; it should have been 1545.00. I emailed about it to reconcile; no reply. They let it go eventually because I was angry, and this was their consolation. I just really wanted customer service. I recently received a move-out bill (after sending her two emails with my new address, still went to the wrong one), I asked NS the reason for the fees, no indication of that on the bill (this is the law, I believe); no reply. Sydney is often not in the office, when she is she often closes the blinds so as not to be interrupted. She insists on people making appointments to ask her a simple question. This has become laughable to the residents. There are several reviews on this page that appear fake. How can you tell? The phrase, Sydney, the property manager, or something close, is used in every review. That's concocted. I have NEVER heard anyone talk about The Emery now who is not absolutely sick of her and this new company. I work on the South Waterfront and many people at work live there; the word is now gotten to residents' friends who have heard was a mess it has become. NS responded to my many complaints with some monetary consolation towards my mother, but I just wanted to live in a place where honesty, integrity and customer service existed. Norris and Stevens and Sydney do not understand the assignment. I cannot believe that this place I called home for six years crashed and burned in a matter of weeks. I seriously do not want to be angered by one of NS silly replies to this. The service was terrible and unacceptable. What a shame. I loved this place I called home for many years. Edit: After owner's review. So, more excuses. I understand things happen, very poor communication; emails simply ignored. What is your excuse for that? Sydney has terrible customer service skills and posts inappropriate videos on social media. This was brought to the attention of management. She was in a relationship with the gentleman fired. Why is she still there? The entire community is complaining about her. Why don't you delve into that. Hire more people; cover the weekend. Why don't you people understand how to manage a property? You will continue to make excuses. NS does not get it. Keep making excuses. People moving out like crazy! It has become the joke around the South Waterfront.

This transition in property management companies has been rough to say the least, but frankly it is what it is. I do not love Norris and Stevens for lack of rewards, bilt points, or resident marketplace. However, Sydney has been great and I love having her on the property. I love stopping and talking to her in the mornings before I head to work. She even helped give me the motivation to know my worth for a promotion interview! I also would really like us to keep the temp maintenance man. He has been so kind when interacting with him, keeping the property clean, and responding to requests quickly. Alongside quick things I miss, can we bring back having resident birthdays in the elevator and pet photos through the property 🫣 Also recently I have noticed an actual foot patrol of security on the property at night time, which is a bonus! The property has had some really rough moments in this transition period, but I’m hoping that the dust settles and I find my long-term home here. If you want somewhere affordable with no frills this may be the place for you!
