About Student Housing in Eugene
Eugene is a quintessential Pacific Northwest college town built around the University of Oregon, and its rental market runs with UO's academic calendar. The competition near campus is real — the South University neighborhood fills in winter for the following fall — but Eugene remains significantly more affordable than Portland or Seattle. Best Neighborhoods for Students in Eugene
South University District
Directly south of UO's campus — the primary student zone with apartments and houses at various price points. Walking distance to the main academic buildings and the EMU student union. Fills by February for the following fall.
Whiteaker (Whitaker)
North of campus across downtown, with a distinct artistic character, independent restaurants, and lower rents than the South University zone. Popular with upperclassmen and grad students who want neighborhood identity over proximity.
