Pros: Safe, nice view of Seattle downtown, quiet, responsive management
Cons: More expensive rent according to the market, not proper trash removal
My unit in 5th floor is so nice, spacy, and quiet with a nice view of downtown. The base pay is $2851. Since my credit score was not good, I had to pay one month rent for deposit (400 bucks was advertised for high credit score applicants). Other fees that I'm paying are water charge about 60-100, trash charge 63, package locker rent 15, pet rent 75, standard parking 260$. So, be prepaid for +600$ on your base rent fee. The worst part is about trash removal cause there is no removal on Fridays and Saturdays, and major holidays, as well.

Honestly, I have not had many issues here and when I have, they’re fixed very promptly. It’s very quiet and everyone in the building is friendly. I feel safe inside the apt. There’s security. The rooftop has the best view that includes the needle, the water, and a clear shot of Rainier. It’s a huge space. The gym and amenities remain clean. It’s in walking distance of UW campus (great for dog walks), and a million restaurants, coffee shops, bars, you name it. The only issue I’ve had are packages have been stolen when not put in a locker or if too large and must be left out. This has happened to be 4 times in the course of just 2 months short of one year living here. The building manager is the homie.

Wanted to come on here and give the Kennedy a good review because I have honestly had no issues and the bad reviews worried me at first. I think the apartment is nice, maintenance service was very good, and the management has been responsive and helpful with issues. My experience with security and the parking garage has been good so far! My only gripes with the apartment are the location isn’t the best in the U District but that isn’t really the apartment’s fault. That said, it is very walkable and close to the light rail.

It was a total waste moving here in the first place. I have lived here for 2 years and regretted living here. First day in the move in all the appliances weren’t even ready yet. Everything that was broken in the apartment was fixed not properly and all the door and closet hinges were painted white to cover all the rust it has been building up. The floors are all scratched up and white counter tops were stained. My dryer would literally take 3 hours of cycle to dry clothes even though I reported it to the maintenance department to do something about it but they never did anything. The windows are constantly breaking due to the plastic rotating pieces in the window and advised me to literally never open my windows. Such a joke how am I supposed to air out my apartment when I’m cooking or when it is hot. At the time of move in it was my only choice since there weren’t many options available to me in the udistrict area and school was coming up. I only stayed another year due to not wanting to move my stuff out and thought I could bear it through since it was my last year of school. My car got broken into 3 times within 9 months due to the garage always being broken and the constant homeless people camping inside the parking garages. Not to mention in the last 2 years there was 15 fire evacuations. They started to hire a overnight watch person but they didn’t do anything but occasionally walk around and take pictures so that they were reporting for their jobs. Ridiculous they didn’t ever hire real security that would stop the break ins and fire alarms being pulled. The amenities are a joke. The game room has messed up basketballs. The gym is tiny and smells like sweat constantly and is always filled with people making it hard to find a time and motivation to work out. The outside hangout spot with the pool table is always covered and basically can never use it. The study area is always occupied with people doing their work meetings so you also can never do anything in there. The outside lounge tv is broken and is very dirty up there. If you’re looking into moving into here don’t do it. They will also not give your full amount back from your security deposit which was $850. They gave me $150 saying there were paint defects in the apartment. I didn’t want to contact them anymore since every time I tried doing something they would tell me that there was a reason for it so I am just fed up with them. With the price you’re paying you’re better off looking for better alternatives. You used to have guest parking passes that were free until they took it away and started charging $15 for it so your friends or family can never visit you unless they’re paying for a pass. Trust me you don’t want to park outside of the apartment there is a new car break in every week. Don’t even get me started with the valet trash pick ups. The apartment hallways always smelled disgusting since they would sometimes miss on picking trash and recycling up and it wouldn’t even be everyday. With the charge of $50 per month for valet trash you would expect better service and cleaner hallways. Towards the end of my last year lease they did an illegal price spike upping my rent more than $400. Since I was already planning on leaving The Kennedy I declined the lease right away. The cleaning fee for moving out of the apartment was also $400 which is ridiculous and they said that it was in the contract saying they couldn’t reduce it or remove it even if you cleaned the apartment up when leaving. They’re literally ripping you off and stealing your money. The Kennedy is using illegal apartment practices and should not be allowed to be renting to anyone. I’ve never made many reviews on google and this will be one of my first due to the frustration I’ve had with this apartment. All the reviews you’re seeing are all true with this apartment.

In response to the corporate reply: The gate has been broken for weeks & nothing has been done. If the gate was functioning and it was a random occurrence some forgiveness might be in order - but this is simply negligence by the management.
This review is specifically in regards to the 275 A MONTH paid parking: DO NOT PARK HERE. Stay AWAY. Only park here if you enjoy your car being broken into and getting locked in the garage.
