OU off-campus housing costs about $499 to $780 a month per person for the cheapest bed at most Norman student complexes, based on the 19 Norman properties listed on Find My Place in October 2026. Alight Norman on Classen Boulevard is the cheapest at $499 for a four-bedroom. Want to walk to class instead? Callaway House, 0.4 miles from campus, starts at $889.

Key Takeaways

  • $499 a month gets you a bed in a four-bedroom at Alight Norman, 1.9 miles out on Classen Boulevard.
  • Most Norman student complexes price by the bed, so the listed rent is what one person pays.
  • Walkability costs about $270 to $390 a month per person (Callaway House at $889 vs. $499 to $620 a mile or two out).
  • Traditions Square shows up in Norman searches at $3,480, but that's OU's own per-semester rate, not monthly rent.
  • OU's 2026-27 budget puts off-campus housing and food at $14,154 a year, about $2,200 less than living on campus.
  • Buses are free. OU students ride CART in Norman fare-free.

What OU Off-Campus Housing Costs in 2026

The cheapest bed at a Norman student complex runs $499 to about $780 a month, usually in a four- or five-bedroom unit. Location moves the number more than anything else. Here's the cheapest bed at each per-bed complex on the off-campus housing near OU page, with distance from each listing's commute widget:

  • Alight Norman, 2657 Classen Blvd (1.9 mi): $499 for a four-bedroom, $669 for a three-bedroom.
  • Redpoint Norman on E Imhoff Road (2.0 mi) lists a 4x4.5 at $619 and five-bedrooms from $635.
  • Millennium Student Living, 900 E Lindsey St (1.0 mi): $620 for a five-bedroom, $705 for a four.
  • Three-bedrooms at Alight 12th Ave, out on 13th Place (2.4 mi), start at $639.
  • The Avenue at Norman, 3301 12th Ave SE (2.6 mi): $725 for a five-bedroom, $750 for a four.
  • The Flats at Norman on Stinson Street (1.1 mi) starts four-bedrooms at $780.
  • At 0.4 miles, Callaway House Apartments lists four-bedrooms from $889 to $989.

Two more list low but come with a caveat. Montara Park on Beaumont Drive (1.6 mi) lists four-bedrooms from $579, but it only posts one bedroom count, so we can't confirm it's per bed. The 2900 on Oak Tree Avenue lists a shared room at $559 per person. Its reviews average 1.3 out of 5, though. Read them first.

How to Tell Norman Rents Are Per Bed

Rent that drops as the bedroom count rises is per-bed pricing. Nobody rents a whole five-bedroom for less than a studio, so a falling curve only makes sense if each price covers one person.

The Avenue at Norman shows it cleanly: $1,310 for a one-bedroom, $875 for a two, $820 for a three, $750 for a four and $725 for a five. Alight Norman runs $1,245, $795, $669, then $499. Callaway House goes from $1,409 down to $889.

Some of these floor plans still carry a "unit" label on the site. Trust the curve. Then get the per-person, 12-month total from the leasing office in writing before you sign.

What Fewer Roommates Cost Near OU

Dropping from three roommates to one adds roughly $200 to $300 a month per person at Norman complexes. Same building, smaller unit, bigger bill:

  • Alight Norman: $499 (four-bed), $795 (two-bed), $1,245 (one-bed).
  • At Millennium Student Living it's $705 for a four, $895 for a 2x2 and $1,475 for a one-bedroom.
  • Callaway House climbs from $889 to $1,199, then $1,409 to live alone.

Over a 12-month lease, that two-bedroom premium adds up to $2,300 to $3,600. Want your own place outright? Conventional one-bedrooms start around $810 at Stoneridge Apartments on Jefferson Street (2.3 mi) and $819 at Campus Station (1.3 mi). That's barely more than a bed at The Flats.

OU Off-Campus Housing Cost vs. Living on Campus

Off campus usually wins on price at OU, by about $2,200 a year. OU's 2026-27 cost of attendance budgets $14,154 for housing and food off campus, against $16,381 on campus.

Here's the catch. Traditions Square, which appears in Norman searches at $3,480, is OU-owned housing. That's the university's per-semester room rate for a four-person, four-bedroom apartment, per OU Housing and Food's 2026-27 rates. It isn't a monthly rent, and you'd sign a university housing contract, not a private lease.

Run the math both ways. Traditions Square's four-bedroom costs $6,960 for fall and spring (plus $1,200 a semester in meal points). A $620 bed at Millennium for 12 months is $7,440, and a $499 bed at Alight is $5,988. Cross Village's four-bedroom is pricier at $6,300 a semester.

Freshmen don't get the choice anyway. OU requires first-year students to live on campus, so this math starts sophomore year.

Fees, Utilities and Getting to Campus

None of the 19 Norman listings shows a monthly utility figure yet, and every card says fees may apply. Ask each complex three things: is there a utility cap, what are the admin and application fees, and is furniture extra? Our list of hidden fees in student apartment leases covers the rest.

Getting to class costs nothing. OU students ride CART in Norman fare-free, and the City of Norman's buses are fare-free too. That makes a $499 bed 1.9 miles out a real option even without a car (though Norman is built for driving, so most people end up with one).
