A room in a student complex costs far less, from $599 for a shared room to $2,205 for a private one. Moving farther from campus doesn't lower the price much in San Luis Obispo, so pick an area for the commute, not to save money.
When Do SLO Leases Sign? The Cal Poly Off-Campus Timeline
When to look for off campus housing at Cal Poly: start in October and plan to sign between November and February for the following school year. That's when San Luis Obispo leasing offices open and the close-in houses get claimed. Move-in dates on current Find My Place listings run from June 12 to August 28, close to Cal Poly's new semester start (fall 2026 classes began August 24).
