The Standard has been a major disappointment. Upon moving in, the apartments were filthy, despite being brand new. Students had to clean their own units from top to bottom. Common areas like the halls and elevators are consistently dirty. It's been over a month since students moved in, and the trash chutes are still non-functional, which is unacceptable for a seven-story building.
The pool and hot tub were closed for two weeks during move-in, and while they are now open, the heaters haven’t even been installed yet. Their website is misleading too — the marketing photos show hammocks, fake grass, and cabanas by the pool, none of which actually exist.
Security is a serious concern. Anyone can walk into the building without any checks, and the apartments feel completely unsecured. They’ve also installed the cheapest appliances possible, and the walls are so thin you can hear everything. To top it off, my daughter and her roommates received an email about a noise complaint for music supposedly played in the morning, even though her nor her roommates don't play music in the morning. The email came with a $50 fine threat, yet they didn’t even bother investigating the issue properly.
The WiFi here is unreliable, which poses a significant problem for students who depend on it for their studies. To make matters worse, the property is managed by college students with no clear way to escalate concerns to higher management. Unfortunately, The Standard falls far short of its promises and expectations, leaving residents feeling like no one really cares. The company behind the building seems more focused on locking students into expensive leases than delivering on the services they market.
Instead of addressing ongoing issues, they’re pressuring current residents to sign new leases for next year. Even worse, the photos advertised on their website are misleading—what was promised is far from the reality students experience after moving in.
The photos attached is what students were promised when signing leases. These are fake, it is no where near this nice. Landscaping isn't even complete and looks awful.

I’ve loved living at The Standard so far. I have encountered a couple of problems but when I do, maintenance is very quick to respond and help out. The location is close to campus and downtown. The staff is fantastic. Especially Keila has been very helpful!

I’ve had a really good experience living at The Standard so far. The place is clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. The staff are friendly and helpful whenever I need something, and the community feels safe and welcoming. Overall, I’m happy with my time here and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a nice place to live.

Living at The Standard has been the worst experience I have had in my life. To start off, when we moved in the apartment was filthy, with unfinished paint and splatter on the floors and walls. The trash chutes were not open until more than halfway through the first term, making my roommates and I have to lug our garbage all the way downstairs from the sixth floor to a dumpster outside that was often occupied by a homeless man. The pool and gym were also not available to us at move in. Additionally, it was made aware to us that parking would be first come, first serve in the entire garage instead assigning spots just weeks before we moved in. This has made parking a hassle, with the garage being extremely full at times. The spots are extremely small and all of the corners were blind until they installed mirrors a couple weeks ago, some of which still do not work to show the blind spots. The garage door also broke multiple times, leaving residents unable to go in or out of it for several hours. The wifi has been TERRIBLE since the first day of moving in. You can't watch TV for more than 15-20 minutes without the connection going out. I often times turn the wifi off on my phone since the connection is too weak to load most apps. Worst of all, the condition of some of the most basic elements of our apartment have been terrible. Our entire apartment lost power one night and was not able to get back up until hours later for no apparent reason. One of my roommates' outlet in her bathroom did not work for the first 3 or 4 months of us living here. Worst of all, two of my roommates had windows that were installed improperly. One had a missing handle, not allowing her to open the window, which was able to be fixed after weeks of waiting for parts. The other was installed with a gap, allowing air to flow freely through. During the winter term, her room and the apartment would get to freezing temperatures. On top of this, the heat stopped working, leaving us to deal with 30 degree nights with air just coming in. We called maintenance which was able to fix it but again took multiple weeks because a specialist had to come look at it. The window, however, was not fixed for several months and my roommate had to resort to duct taping the opening to try to give her some relief. Overall, this building is poorly maintained and its clear that the upper management does not care about its residents and leaves the poor student workers to clean up their messes and deal with the brunt of the problems that their lack of responsibility has caused. I would encourage everyone to stay away from living here, especially with the ridiculous rent costs.

Lived here after I lived at Barnhart Hall and I would go back to Barnhart any day. Don't trust any of the 5 star reviews they did not experience the same building that I did.
For starters all the WIFI problems have been ridiculous. Constant shortages have made me lose points on several assignments with the longest outage lasting for a 4 days straight. Not to mention the several weeks of on and off issues at the start of the year. Furthermore, they never provided an ounce of information as to why the WIFI was broken or when we would get service back.
The next issue was fire alarms. While there were times that students would set off the alarms, there were several instances of the alarms simply going off for hours on end for no reason. This alarm of course was not centralized to a single room, but was building wide. The worst problem of course was that it was on a weekend when absolutely no staff were in the building to fix the problem. It was only resolved once the fire Marshall came to the building hours later to turn off the alarm. This is obviously bad enough, but this has happened multiple times at many different hours of the day, including the middle of the night.
Another issue I faced was heating. My apartment had absolutely no heating for 2 months. The most basic of necessities that are needed in an apartment that I was paying $1,400 a month for were missing. Not only this, but I notified the staff several times about this issue and only received a visit to identify the problem after about a week of contacting them. What a joke.
To ramble off the list of numerous other problems. There is absolutely no mailing capabilities here for anything other than packages (Which constantly get lost or stolen from lack of security). There was no trash capabilities for 2-3 months. Everything it constantly dirty around the building. The walls are thin so you can hear everything--especially loud parties. Complete lack of security all around the building. Mattresses and appliances provided are of terrible quality. Doors will break causing you to walk the entire length of the building just to get inside. Problems will be addressed and ignored by staff until they have heard about it several times. These are just some of the issues I have faced living here, there are most certainly more as I am not the only person living in this building. I wouldn't be surprised if I received notice of a class action lawsuit against the company in coming years.
As terrible as The Standard is, I don't blame the everyday staff for these issues, most are students who are just doing what they are told. The real issues lie in middle and upper management whose only concern is protection against lawsuits, which means give no information, and secure leases by any means necessary. These are the reasons why everyone is constantly left in the dark about any problem, and why none of these problems get fixed.
