I donβt usually go back and change my reviews, but the new management here genuinely deserves it.
Iβve lived here for a couple of years mainly because the location is unbeatable if youβre a student, but to be honest, the old management was so frustrating that I seriously considered moving out multiple times. It always felt like student concerns, safety, and even basic maintenance werenβt a priority, which honestly explains the older reviews youβll see. Amenities like the hot tub and sauna were constantly broken, and it just felt like no one really cared.
Thatβs completely changed.
The new management is spot on and you can tell theyβre actually on a mission to turn this place around. The amenities are now fully functional, they even added a Starbucks machine with free coffee, and more importantly, theyβre responsive, respectful, and actually care about residentsβ wellbeing and satisfaction.
Itβs still the same great location, but now it finally feels like the management matches it.
Awesome location, fixed amenities, and management that actually listens.
Ps: Armani.. you're awesome :D

Mj is so amazing. When Mj is at the front desk you know itβs going to be a good day. Very on top of everything and fantastic at finding solutions in a timely manner. Over all the staff is the best you could get but I believe Mj out shines everyone. (Someone get this girl a raise).

If you are on the fence about renting here, or feel desperate and think that State Apartments is the only/best option available for you- please, from one young renter to another- DO NOT RENT HERE. I made the mistake last year when I was desperate for an apartment and THOUGHT that State was the only good place for me with availability. It is not. There are plenty of way better options for CHEAPER that are equally or just slightly further in distance from campus. Donβt make my mistake.
Read the other reviews. They are 100% accurate in their negative experiences.
Edit: Story time - one time someone vomited in the stair well in the first building and I shit you not it went uncleaned for over 4 months.
Another fun story - when I first moved in I was unsure where I could park. I asked an employee where I could park and they pointed vaguely in the direction of a lot I apparently could park at. I parked there and proceeded to get towed by Wyattβs and had to pay over $400 to get my vehicle back. State only gave me a $75 giftcard as an βapologyβ.

As a father of a student who lived there for three years, let me give you the best piece of advice I possibly can: DO NOT LIVE THERE. When my daughter moved in three years ago, things were better, but over the last 18 months she has had an overall horrible experience. Bottom line, as the father of a young girl, I did not feel safe with my daughter, living there. There were homeless people sleeping in the stairwells of the parking garage, resident were allowed to behave in whatever manner they wanted without being held accountable, and there was no real security to speak of. Between maintenance not doing their jobs, the staff being rude and unhelpful, and the issues she had with neighbors, it was a constant nightmare. The managers switch a lot at State, and we had a bad experience with each one. They either do not have any information for you or they are incredibly incompetent and rude. I had a neighbor who was well into his 30s threaten me and harass me, and we shared a bedroom wall.
The neighbors next to you, with the way the building was built, will carry noise and potential issues. The pricing goes up and down a lot, and the appliances and upkeep of your actual unit will not be good. We have had multiple cases of water damage, our air or heat not working, and weeks and weeks of construction going on in our apt while still having to live there.

I just moved out of state after living there for one year. Donβt waste your money here. The location seems great but the units are disgusting and the management is incompetent. My roommate and I each paid $250 to move in a week early for βexpedited cleaning.β However, when we moved in we were shocked to see that the unit was filthy. The floors turned our socks black, the air vents were caked in dust, the oven was covered in grease, the fridge was already dirty and had a broken shelf, and the dryer was full of lint. I wouldnβt have been as upset if we hadnβt spent a combined $500 for them to clean the unit prior to us moving in. We went to talk to management and they sent two people up who just dusted various things and left. Throughout our time at state we dealt with a lot of maintenance issues. This included our upstairs neighborsβ water heater leaking through our kitchen ceiling, creating a massive water bubble. The maintenance team is rude and unprofessional. He came into our apartment, popped the bubble sending water and plaster all over our kitchen and living room, and then left because he βcouldnβt do anything else.β Our kitchen was unusable for awhile and even after the water was contained there was still a hole in our ceiling for weeks. If youβre in the second building (where I was), youβll have to deal with living directly off of college avenue. Because of that, one time we woke up at 5 am to a fire outside our living room window and another night we woke up to the police yelling for a man named Jonathan to come out with his hands up. Also, it was just extremely loud and my roommateβs room was directly off of the street. You can find somewhere else for a similar price that wonβt treat you like garbage.
