No matter how much you clean trap or spray there is roaches up the wall zoo here. I never had a problem with bugs until I moved here. No in unit laundry, so you could even get roaches from someone else’s laundry. Trash constantly overflows and left in halls, and there it graffiti on the walls. Management is impossible to get a hold of, and if you somehow do get a hold of them, they are passive, aggressive, and rude . I have heard from other tenants about electrical mold and plumbing issues, overall and unsanitary and hostile environment.

If I could give this place negative stars, I would. Management is useless. Michaelyn is clearly very sick and will routinely send incoherent emails blaming the tenants for why the building is practically condemned. If she dislikes you, she will simply tell you to break your lease or will send unhinged emails with no basis in reality. She also never responds to emails unless she feels personally attacked (which she will, even if you’re just trying to get maintenance done). You will be scolded, treated like garbage, and then blamed for everything that management and CSC doesn’t feel like fixing. The complex is falling down, it’s lousy with bugs, and there have been multiple break-ins. In the short time I’ve been here. You will be ignored, accused of vandalism, and dismissed, all while being expected to pay over $1200 for an apartment that has holes in the floors and breakers that flip constantly but you can’t flip back yourself. If you’re looking for a roach motel run by an absent corporation, with a property manager who is delusional and refuses to help or take accountability, then Westfal is the place for you. If you’d like to feel safe, heard, and happy in your home, Westfal ain’t it. There are so many other better choices in Portland than this chum bucket. Save yourself a lot of money, frustration, and fear: don’t rent at the Westfal. EDIT to address the response: You don’t see me as a tenant because I chose to use an account that doesn’t identify me because I knew the Westfal would respond in a defensive and bizarre manner and I didn’t want to get hounded by Michaelyn again. As anyone can see, legitimate complaints will be addressed in the manner you see here. I would be happy to share, publicly, all of the unhinged emails that Michaelyn sent to me if you’d like. She told me things about other tenants being evicted, talked about the roach problems in the building, and spent a lot of time trying to defend herself instead of addressing the legitimate issues with the building. You have just publicly shown how you deal with criticisms of the Westfal—with remarks that seem like they were made by children. I feel comforted that other potential tenants will see your response here. Trust me, if you think you want to live at the Westfal, remember that any criticism will be met with a manager who says you’re a liar and a slanderer. Please don’t put yourself in harm’s way by renting at the Westfal. Avoid it at all costs.

In my experience, slumlords run the Westfal. It has a long history of unresolved habitability problems and systemic mismanagement. I previously prevailed in a court case against management for illegal conduct and retaliation after I asserted my rights. Many of the same issues have continued, including ongoing code violations, lack of essential services, and a consistent disregard for tenant rights. The pattern of illegal landlord activity and retaliatory behavior is well documented. I strongly advise prospective tenants to look elsewhere.

I visited a friend in June and her apartment is amazing. Clean laundry rooms and hallways. Smells and looks amazing keep up the good work!!

My sister lives in this building, and I'm happy to say that since the start of this summer, (around June) they've REALLY cleaned up the place! The laundry room and the hallways used to be disgusting, but now they look great!
