Only two pet-friendly apartments in Starkville publish their actual pet fees: The Quarters Starkville charges a $350 non-refundable fee plus $25 a month per pet, and Lakeside Living charges $350 plus $30 a month. Five more complexes near Mississippi State say they take pets but make you call for the numbers. Here are all seven, with what each one has published.

Quick context before the list. We started from the 27 places on FMP's page for msu off campus housing, then went to each property's own website in October 2026 to find its pet policy. Pet fees change often, so every dollar figure below is quoted straight from the property itself. If a property didn't publish it, we say so. We don't guess.

Key Takeaways

  • $350. That's the one-time, non-refundable pet fee at both The Quarters and Lakeside Living, the only two that post their numbers.
  • Monthly pet rent runs $25 per pet at The Quarters and $30 at Lakeside.
  • Lakeside bans 13 breed groups (pit bull types, German Shepherds and Huskies among them) and caps dogs at 75 lb.
  • Expect a non-refundable fee, not a refundable deposit. Neither published policy mentions a pet deposit you'd get back.
  • Call before you sign at The Social Block, The Block Townhomes, Yugo, Redpoint and The Grand (they confirm pets are allowed but post no fee amounts).
  • Your roommates get a say, too. Lakeside makes everyone on the lease sign the animal addendum.

1. The Quarters Starkville: the clearest pet policy near campus

If you want to know your pet costs before you tour, start with The Quarters Starkville. Its own FAQ spells out everything. With approval, you can have two dogs or cats per apartment. Each one costs a $350 non-refundable fee plus a $25 monthly "pet installment."

A few details most places skip are in there too. Fish, hamsters, snakes and bunnies in cages need no pet fee (just tell the office). Approved assistance and service animals pay no pet fees. Everyone fills out pet-screening forms, pet or no pet. There's a dog park on site, and the complex at 450 Campus Trail sits 0.6 miles from Mississippi State on FMP's commute map.

On rent, the 4x2 lists from $510 and the 2x1 from $685. Rent drops as the bedroom count goes up, so those are per-bedroom rates. One honest note: The Quarters holds a 2.9 FMP score from 5 reviews, so read those Starkville reviews before you commit. Best for: students who want the full pet bill in writing.

2. Lakeside Living: published fees, strict breed list

Lakeside Living at 1300 Old Hwy 12 posts the most detailed pet rules on this list, on its own pet policy page. Cats and dogs are welcome. You pay a one-time, non-refundable $350 pet fee and $30 a month in pet rent, both due before move-in.

Now the strict part. Dogs top out at 75 lb. Lakeside turns away pit bull-type breeds and mixes, Bulldogs, Rottweilers, Akitas, Bernese Mountain Dogs, Canary Dogs, Chows, Dobermans, German Shepherds, Dalmatians, Huskies, wolf breeds and Rhodesian Ridgebacks. Pets have to be at least 6 months old. An unregistered pet gets a $100 fine, on top of the regular fees.

The 4x4 lists from $494 and the studio from $1,217, which reads as per-bedroom pricing on the shared units. It's also the farthest place on this list, at 4.2 miles from campus on FMP's commute map. Lakeside's homepage currently says it's sold out for fall 2026 and running a waitlist. Best for: owners of a cat or a smaller, non-restricted dog who like rules spelled out.

3. The Social Block: pet-friendly with PetScreening and a dog park

The Social Block at 110 Lincoln Green says yes to pets. The Rally, the community brand that now covers The Social Block and The Block Townhomes, answers "Yes! Additional fees apply. PetScreening is required" in its FAQ. Pet rent is billed separately from your rent installment. The site doesn't publish the dollar amount, so call (662) 308-9818 and get it in writing.

There's a dog park on the property. It's 1.0 mile from campus on FMP's map. The 4x2 Classic Furnished lists from $449 and the 2-bedroom plans from $599, and since rent falls as bedrooms rise, those are per-bedroom prices. Best for: the cheapest pet-friendly bed we could confirm near MSU.

4. The Block Townhomes: pets allowed with PetScreening, plus townhome space

The Block Townhomes at 625 S Montgomery Street allows pets. It's part of The Rally, the community brand that also runs The Social Block, and The Rally's FAQ says pets come with additional fees and PetScreening is required. The amounts aren't posted online, so call (662) 308-9818 before you apply.

The draw for a dog owner is the layout. These are 2-bedroom, 2.5-bath townhomes, so you're splitting walls with one roommate instead of three. FMP lists them from $614, and The Rally signs each resident to an individual lease. The Block is 1.2 miles from campus. Best for: a dog owner with one roommate who wants a townhome and not a 4x4.

5. Yugo Starkville Campus Common: close to campus, call for fees

Yugo Starkville Campus Common at 21 Ace Avenue lists "Pet-friendly" and a dog park on its own site. Its FAQ says, "Yes we are pet friendly! Please contact our office if you are planning on bringing your pet." No fee amounts, no breed list.

It's 0.8 miles from Mississippi State, and it carries a 4.2 FMP score from 5 reviews, the best-rated property on this list. FMP lists Yugo from $449. Yugo's own site prices its 1-bed from $1,219 and its 3-bed from $525, a gap that only makes sense as per-person pricing. Best for: students who want a well-reviewed place under a mile from campus and don't mind making a phone call about Fido.

6. Redpoint Starkville: cottages, but only select units take pets

Redpoint Starkville at 50 Warmath Way calls itself "a pet-friendly community, subject to limits on animals and breeds" in its FAQ. Its homepage adds that "select residences are pet-friendly." So not every cottage will take your dog. Neither page lists the limits or the fees.

FMP lists Redpoint from $525. Redpoint's own rates page prices per person, with the furniture package and trash pickup billed on top. It's 1.1 miles from campus. Best for: someone who wants cottage-style living and is willing to ask which units qualify before applying.

7. The Grand at Starkville: has a pet park, keeps the details offline

The Grand at Starkville at 2041 Blackjack Road answers its FAQ pet question with "Yes, we are a pet-friendly community. Please contact the office for more details!" Its amenities page lists a Pet Park. That's all it publishes, so call (662) 546-8990 for the fee and breed rules.

The Grand leans townhome-heavy, with 2-bedroom and 3-bedroom plans. The 3-bed Buena Vista Townhome lists from $650 and the 2-bed plans from $790, so these are per-bedroom rates. It's 1.1 miles from campus. Best for: a pet owner who wants townhome space on the Blackjack Road side of town.

What a Year of Pet Rent Costs in Starkville

One dog at The Quarters runs $650 for a 12-month lease: $350 up front, then $25 a month. The same dog at Lakeside costs $710. Bring two pets to The Quarters and it doubles to $1,300, because both charges apply per pet.

That's money you won't get back. Both published policies use a non-refundable fee, not a refundable deposit. Pet damage is a separate line item, so read the damage section of your lease too. Fold the pet line into your budget next to the rent numbers in our Mississippi State housing cost breakdown, and compare more places on FMP's Starkville student housing page.

Plan for vet care, too. Mississippi State's College of Veterinary Medicine runs the Animal Health Center in Starkville, a teaching hospital with a 24/7 ER line at 662-325-1351. Good to know before a 2 a.m. scare during finals week.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pet-Friendly Apartments in Starkville

How much is pet rent near Mississippi State?

$25 to $30 a month for one pet, based on the two properties that publish it. The Quarters charges $25 and Lakeside Living charges $30, each with a $350 non-refundable fee. The other five pet-friendly complexes on this list don't post amounts, so ask for a written fee schedule before you apply.

Do Starkville apartments have breed restrictions?

Yes, at least some do. Lakeside Living bans 13 breed groups and caps dogs at 75 lb. Redpoint says it limits animals and breeds without naming them. If you have a large dog or a breed that often shows up on restricted lists, get the answer in writing before you pay an application fee.

Do I pay pet fees for an emotional support animal?

Not at The Quarters, which says approved assistance and service animals pay no pet fees. Other properties set their own process, so ask the leasing office how it handles assistance animal requests. Our guide to ESA letters and apartments covers what to ask.

Do my roommates have to agree to my pet?

At Lakeside, yes. Everyone on the lease signs the animal addendum. Even where it isn't required, talk to your roommates first. A barking dog in a shared 4x4 is a quick way to lose friends, and our pet-friendly student housing guide goes deeper on picking a place that works for everyone.
