I have been living at Ferry Street Flats since April 2024. I am a woman. I went through all the trouble to acquire a lease for myself and my boyfriend with my father as the guarantor. My boyfriend returned to the US after a foreign work exchange in May 2024 which is why I did all the heavy lifting on the paperwork. We LOVED our old property manager/leasing agent Marcus. He was an all around great guy and made everything so easy for us. Marcus left the property at the end of 2024 and was replaced by a woman whose name I do not know. A few days ago I bought a truck in cash and it is entirely under my name. This is the largest purchase I have ever made because I am quite young and I have truly been overjoyed and so proud of myself. The leasing office’s hours are typically from 9-5 but today there was a sign that they wouldn’t be in until 2. Sometime after 2 I went in to inquire about a parking pass and someone I assumed to be an assistant made it clear he was not at all knowledgeable about this process and that I needed to wait for the property manager/leasing agent to return. I thought it was extremely unprofessional for him to be there alone when his response to every last one of my questions was “I don’t know” but regardless I went down before 5 to inquire about a parking pass hoping the woman would have returned. She was there before 5 but refused to sell me a parking pass. Neither she nor her assistant would look up the lease to see it was in my name nor would they believe MY new car was in MY name. They said they were closed and gave me the silent treatment after telling me to send the “information” implied to be proof of my name on the lease and proof of MY ownership of MY car to the building’s email. Again this was during business hours and I had gone down more than once today to try to buy a parking pass. At the beginning of this process she very clearly stated she would sell me a parking pass if my boyfriend was present repeatedly implying he was the only one on the lease and that he owned the car. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced sexism this severe in my entire life. If you’ve heard good things about this property previously I assume it was attributed to Marcus’ professionalism and friendliness. I also want to add that the moment new management took over the parking pass went from $90/month to $120/month and that there have been signs all over the building incentivizing 5 star reviews with gift cards and other rewards. The elevator is frequently broken which has been very difficult considering I have a neurological disability that causes fainting, when I make it up the stairs my boyfriend often has to care for me and fetch things for me to avoid me fainting and hitting my head. Marcus would host get togethers for residents to get to know each other and I’ve met tenants who use mobility aids and a mother with a small child (stroller age) so I can’t imagine how difficult this is for folks like them. The new management is not at all professional and after this interaction I would honestly consider them discriminatory. For the love of God please look to rent somewhere else. I came back to edit this post to show how unsanitary the common areas in this building are. I have frequently seen food clogging the drains in the communal kitchen be left there until it molds. There is often rancid food in the communal fridge. Today there was foul smelling trash left in the hallway. It seems leasing staff make no effort to enforce rules when it comes to residents respecting common spaces.
