Don’t Be Fooled: The Rent Is the Only Decent Thing, Everything Else Is a Disaster I lived in Thurman Lofts in Downtown LA, and honestly the only advantage might be the rent price. Beyond that, it’s been one of the worst experiences. The management never mentioned the constant noise from the nightclub next door, the elevator situation is a nightmare, and the security staff treats you with zero respect. There are three elevators in the building, but usually only one is working, and sometimes not even that. Neighbors who have lived here for years told me that never in all this time have all three worked at the same time. Every week it feels like a different one breaks down, and there’s always a line of people outside waiting just to get in. This has been going on for many years, and it makes daily life extremely frustrating. After just three weeks of living here, I wanted to terminate my lease because I felt scammed with all the noise issues, but management basically threatened me legally, saying I would lose because they’re not obligated to inform tenants of these kinds of problems—like the nightclub Exchange that is literally right next door. My sincere advice to anyone considering moving here is: come by on a Friday or Sunday between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m. so you can see firsthand what you’ll be dealing with if you expect a quiet weekend. The public areas, like the stairways and elevators, are filthy—sometimes it feels like homeless people live there with how dirty they are. They never get cleaned. I’ve been here two months and still haven’t been given the key to my mailbox. If something in your apartment is broken, expect to wait at least a month for them to fix it. On top of that, the laundry machines are often broken, and the overall conditions of the building are unacceptable for what they charge. And yet, somehow, there are still 5-star reviews for this building. It’s unbelievable. The majority of reviews are negative, which is the real truth, so either those 5-star reviews should be removed or people should be more honest—because they do not reflect reality. In short: I strongly do not recommend this place at all.
